31st July & 1st Aug ‘09 celebrated as SENSORIAL DAYS at Fountainhead Preschool were worth a visit.
The school was converted into a big sensorial centre where the teachers uplifted the flap to show case on the five senses of: TOUCH, HEARING, SIGHT, SMELL, and TASTE
We had different rooms allotted for activities on knowing and learning about different senses on both floors.
All the kids experienced a new journey in their school of senses where they had shrills and thrills to know about that particular sense as to how it worked. The kids accompanied by their parents on that day, initiated the adventure with the SENSE OF TOUCH.
To start off with, the kids crawled up through a tunnel to pass and then the tiny toes had great fun strolling on the walking path of different textures like stones, dry grass, fresh grass, moong, jute cloth, bubble wrap, marbles and rice. They dipped their little feet in colorful paint, and then on to the wet sponge to wipe them. The tiny little hands had maida flour paste, things which were sticky, wet, and dry to TOUCH AND FEEL.
Next was the room for the SENSE OF HEARING which had mystery sounds and games like Marco Polo, Follow the Sound and Listen to Draw. The kids tried their hands on different musical instruments to recognize their different sounds. Moreover there were SINGING marbles, vessels, water, coins etc to add to their excitement.
The area for SENSE OF SMELL surprised our visitors that it was not so easy to just recognize by smelling without seeing it, as we had trickily hidden things to smell which included different types of fragrances, leaves, paints and soaps. Our team had come up with some uncommon things like all spices leaves, gaumutra soap, and aroma paints etc. There was an exposure to blend smells which were named as smell detectives also.
The SENSE OF SIGHT included lots of Optical illusion cards displayed to have a check on oneself, the day and night houses together to know the difference, activities for visual discrimination and the lovely puppet show. The story of Red Riding Hood and melodious songs and rhymes in the puppet show were simply amazing. Our teachers performed to their best for the puppet show and made it thoroughly entertaining.
The fifth and the last to explore was the tempting SENSE OF TASTE. It served number of same things with various tastes, sweet, spicy, salty, tangy, bitter & bland. The room for tasting was just mouth watering as it had tasty edibles to eat and drink which had to be recognized without seeing. There were seeds, leaves, nature’s real tastes and lots more arranged to experiment them in different ways like: No Saliva No Taste, Tasty Vision, Tasty Buds and Nose Knows!!
Tout ensemble ‘THE SENSORIAL DAY’ was a great success due to the efforts of our whole Fountainhead Team as well as the parents of the students of Fountainhead Preschool who showed such wonderful co-operation by attending the event along with their children.
Ultimately, the voice of our efforts and the taste of our success speak that “where sense is wanting everything is wanting”
